Open to submissions from all over the world, the eighth edition of the Copernicus Masters is on the hunt for outstanding ideas, applications, and business concepts that use Earth observation data to solve important social and commericial challenges. Our world-class partners have set participants a wide range of Challenges to solve using Earth observation data.

In addition to cash prizes, the winners of the Challenges will receive access to a our leading international network, Earth observation data, startup funding, business development packages, and access to the Copernicus Accelerator – all valued at more than EUR 600,000.


To enter the Copernicus Masters, you first need to choose the challenge that best fits your solution.

If you are a resident of a Copernicus participating country OR you have established a company in one of those countries, you can also enter one of the six challenges set by the European Commission.

Once you have chosen a challenge, then you need to register to our submission database, where you will complete a submission form that details your idea.

You must complete your submission form to 100% by 30 June for your submission to be considered eligible for evaluation.

The Copernicus Master 2018 will be chosen by an international panel of experts and will be awarded on stage at the festive awards ceremony. In addition to the vast promotional activities, the overall winner will receive:

– A ticket to an upcoming satellite launch in Kourou to the value of EUR 10,000
– A substantial satellite data quota worth EUR 20,000
– A place in the Copernicus Masters Hall of Fame

Access to Satellite Data


The Masters Business Series is a set of tutorials that will introduce you to the business concepts and terminology commonly associated with the commercialisation of ideas. From April to June, a new tutorial will be released every week on our YouTube channel.

You can use these tutorials to help complete your submission form. Each tutorial directly relates to one of the more business-focused questions that you will need to answer. You will find a full list of tutorials in the introduction video.
